Aim and scope

    This Symposium will offer a forum to discuss assistive and recuperative technologies that will have the most impact on humans health and quality of life in the coming decade.

The Symposium will offer to attendants the opportunity to participate in:

  • overviews the state-of-the-art in selected disciplines (tutorials and keynotes)
  • presentation of recent research results (oral and poster presentations)
  • cross-disciplinary discussions, resulting in research ideas, techniques or collaboration initiatives (panels and break-off discussions on interdisciplinary topics, emerging technologies, new research initiatives).

The range of topics of interest is broad across diverse technologies, including the development and use of

  • new materials and structures, procedures, robotics and prosthetic devices, information technologies supporting diagnostic and intervention, computerized diagnostic, monitoring and therapy, organ/tissue/blood/marrow preservation /banks;
  • biotechnologies,  managed healthcare,  neuro-robotics,  biofeedback devices,  bioinformatics, human genetic engineering, genetic technologies for therapy and enhancement;
  • new techniques and technologies in neurosurgery, brain implants, neuro/brain-machine interfaces  and control,  stem cells engineering, tissue engineering, artificial and bio-artificial organs,  novel medical devices and systems, etc.

Submissions are sought in all of the above areas. However, a special focus of the 2009 ARTIPED is on technologies benefiting from the revolution in robotics and prosthetic devices . Thus, special sessions will be organized on the following topics:

  • Therapeutic and surgery robots for minimally invasive and remote operation procedures;
  • Assistive and caregiving robotics and systems;
  • Endoprosthetic devices, technologies and procedures for restoring functionality
  • Exoprosthetic devices, technologies and procedures, exoskeletons and other systems for restoring mobility;
  • Prosthetic technologies for systems for coping with perception, control and communication impairments (hearing, speech, and vision assistive systems, brain-machine interfaces  and control, neuro-robotics),
  • Robotics and automation in genetic/stem cell/tissue engineering, intelligent information processing in new devices and robots ,
The Symposium will offer the attendents the opportunity to participate in:
(1) overviews the state-of-the-art in selected disciplines (tutorials and keynotes)
(2) presentation of recent research results (oral and poster presentations)
(3) cross-disciplinary discussions, resulting in research ideas, techniques or collaboration initiatives (panels and break-off discussions on interdisciplinary topics, emerging technologies, new research initiatives).

To set the framework the participants are invited to review roadmaps, such as the roadmap for robotics in medicine.

ARTIPED  2009 will take place in Iasi , Romania . The capital of the medieval principality of Moldavia , Iasi is a city immersed in history and culture, yet trendy and vibrant due to the tens of thousands of university students that live in Romania's oldest - and second largest  -university city.  The social program will include a tour to the famous painted monasteries of Northern Moldavia and Iasi sightseeing.
 ARTIPED 2009 is part of AT-EQUAL 2009 which also includes:

July 22-24, 2009
2nd ECSIS Symposium on Learning and Adaptive Behaviours in Robotic Systems .
An important theme in 2009 will be Learning and adaptation in robots robots
working within environments in close proximity to other robots and humans

ISRIS July 22-26, 2009 The International School on Robotics and Intelligent Systems , with the theme: Assistive robots and systems for healthcare and rehabilitation

Papers/contributions

We invite 6-page research papers for presentations, or 2-page position papers for panels and discussion, to be uploaded on the website.  The proceedings will be publised by IEEE.
